Catch & Release the GT

Preservation of the Giant Trevally

More information coming soon...

In the meantime, we encourage only the catch and release of Giant Trevally (GT) when angling. Please be conscious of the following:

  • use only barbless hooks to avoid damaging GT and angler;
  • use the most appropriate line class to ensure that the fight is not longer than necessary
  • do not hold/weigh a GT only by the mouth/gills or by the tail - this can cause irreversible damage to the fish
  • avoid having the fish out of the water for more than 30 seconds
  • try to have a saltwater hose available to pump fresh saltwater through the GTs gills. Another alternative if no hose is available is to use a bucket.
  • hold the fish properly - avoid dropping or hitting it on the deck and other parts of the boat or land
  • slowly 'swim' the fish before release

You can also choose to display this logo on your website or forum/blog signature to show your support for the preservation of the GT!
